The secret of unlimited bandwidth and disk space

It’s just a marketing trick. As you should know, unlimited exists even though you, or anybody, can’t use it.
But it makes you buy. You buy unlimited because you don’t want to be limited to only 3000 Megabytes of monthly bandwidth, or 10000 Gigabytes (yes, thats 10 Terabytes) of storage. For your website? Thats crazy.

Truth is, you can create a website that consists of one hundred pages that easily fits into a 10 Megabyte plan. And you have to bring thousands of visitors each day to break a 10 Gigabyte monthly bandwidth limit.

Hosts know it, but they offer unlimited because everybody else does it. They do it because it doesn’t cost them anything to do it. If you do use all that storage or bandwidth, and this is the crazy part, your plan will probably be cancelled due to ‘excessive use’ or unspecified ‘violation of terms’. Just read that fine printing in the terms of service, if it’s even in there.

So, what now? Any advice for those about to fall for that unlimited jibbrish?
1 Read the terms of service before purchasing the plan. If the terms are bad, the host is probably not good.
2 Don’t fall for unlimited. Everybody else is also getting unlimited, which may as well result in overloaded servers.
3 Focus on sites that don’t offer unlimited. If you are unsure of what you need, ask the host if the plans are upgradable. If you are hosted on a plan too small, and the upgrade is too expensive, just move to another host.

It really not hard, if your new host wants your business, they will help you move your site for a small charge.
Good luck in finding a great web host!
